‘Life should be great rather than long’
by Raminder Kaur
directed by Sarah Jane Schostack
THE MODERN MAN is the first play on the phenomenal polymath and social crusader, Dr B.R. Ambedkar, to come to the UK stage as R&D work-in-progress.
Inspired by true events in England and India in the early-mid-twentieth century with a touch of mythos, the play tells the story of the visionary and 'ultimate humanist', Dr Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar - from a spurned Hindu ‘Untouchable’ (Dalit) to a Buddhist leader of the modern Indian nation.
It illuminates on his relationships, his education, his inspirations and his achievements against all the odds at a time of much turbulence and prejudice against people from low caste backgrounds.
Learn about how he transformed his own as well as others' lives, how he struggled for Dalit's as well as women's rights, and how he changed India for good in this enlightening and entertaining play.
